Visuelle Bauwerksinspektion /// visual structural inspection

Efficient structural inspection – indoor as well as outdoor: Researchers from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany use the AscTec Falcon 8 to test the drones usability in several visual inspection applications and structure types. The result is: Precise control and 36-MP-Kameras minimize effort and risk, but enable reliable structure analysis, damage detection and reproducible monitoring.

The high-tech drone Asctec Falcon 8 with integrated high-resolution RGB or thermal camera enables to minimize financial and administrative expenses for damage detection and structural inspections. Numerous UAV inspection and survey applications were tested and successfully completed in 2014. For example – all these objects have been successfully measured and inspected in Germany in between one week: The protection wall at the new Jagdbergtunnel, the Schiefe Turm (Oberkirche von Bad Frankenhausen), the Rappbode Dam, a motorway bridge in Geschwenda, sample checks of a windpark in Bucha and a complete indoor and outdoor survey of the Dom zu Halberstadt as well as of the Dom zu Magdeburg.

“The tiny electrically operated drone, the AscTec Falcon 8, which the Professor Guido Morgenthal for the Bauhaus-University and Ascending Technologies specially optimize and test in cooperation, already is able to simplify visual inspection with drone support and make it much more efficient.” Thüringische Landeszeitung,

“As yet for the visual inspection of structures streets and infrastructures need to be blocked to set expensive scaffoldings. Sometimes several hundred thousand Euros have been spent before any cent could be channelled to the renovation and restructuring of an object,” says Hallermann. Together with Morgenthal Hallermann is in charge for the UAV project at the Bauhaus University, Weimar. Latest flight systems like the AscTec Falcon 8 demonstrate how meaningfull UAVs could be used as soon as it is integrated in manual processes and official survey instructions. You could use it for UAV based visual inspections and surveys of dams, cooling towers, wind wheels or chimneys – or in any other case of industrial or structural inspection case.
